Planet Fitness Signature Gym Pretoria

An athletics track is one of Planet Fitness’ standard requirements for their Signature Gym gyms. In this flagship project, it was possible to install the running track on the rooftop in combination with various other outdoor training areas. The whole roof area is therefore used as an exercise area with artificial turf and elastic floor coverings made of EPDM granules.

Olympus in the east of Pretoria was developed from agricultural land into a residential suburb in the early 2000s. Over the past 20 years, this area has increasingly densified with residential development. Planet Fitness’ Signature Gym is seen as part of the suburb’s next step of development, which includes retail, offices, schools, sports and leisure facilities.

The architectural idea for this project was not to close oneself off while training, but to include the outside world. This is why the whole building, which is one of the first “public” buildings in the new suburb, visually opens up to the street thanks to the extensive glazed north facade.
